So, everyone I know wants to make a change in their life. Some kind of change. Often, they don’t have any idea what it is. Something just feels wrong, Or, if they’re lucky, they know the first thing they want to work on. Today, I’m going to talk to those who are ready to start some kind of physical activity.

For instance, if you don’t like exercise but you know you need to do it. This has always been a first step for me, and I have suggestions I hope will work for you.

My first issue was the need for physical therapy because I had a knee replacement about 10 years ago and both hips were giving me trouble. Lots of pain. So, exercise had gotten very difficult. After a few sessions, I learned there were things I could do at home to strengthen my glutinous muscles. I bought several items that helped me and will list them here for you.

Your need for physical therapy may be very different, but I suggest going to PT first to see what movement or pain issue you have.

I now have enough of an improvement in my hips that I can start to do other things, like returning to walking. My daughter bought me a pair of walking sticks that I resisted at first, but now I use them regularly.

I recognize that your situation may simply be that you dislike boring exercises (me, too) so I have a few suggestions. Do you have a favorite song that you like enough to dance to by yourself? Mine is “Tired of Being Alone” by Al Green. I have just started a “move mug”. I made little notes with things I can do for 5 minutes (like dance, Jumping Jacks, walk on my cul de sac, walk the hallway, karaoke (I have a microphone) and dance to a song, etc.  When I’m feeling a need to move, I grab a note and just follow the words. It’s working.

I believe the difficult thing is to make that first move.

That’s all I have for the first change. Much of the information in my posts come from an older perspective. However, the principal is often the same. For instance, I’ve been dealing with aches and pains from aging, but you may have just had a baby and face the same resistance as I do.

I wish you the best, and you can drop me a message on the Let’s Chat icon.
