This is one of my favorite words. It means to have sudden insight. For me, they are usually outstanding. To realize, out of the blue, that you are an exceptionally sensitive person and then be able to track it back to being ADHD is a recent example of this fabulous word. I may be a bit addicted to them. On this one, I realized I was being sensitive before I saw a video on Instagram describing this condition, called rejection sensitivity. It clicked into place when I watched the video, however,
Epiphanies do not have to be personal. Sudden insight into how a procedure at work functions can occur regularly. Often, in training, steps are left out. When you finally realize you need to fill out a certain form, that is an epiphany!
If you make a note of each of them as they hit you, it could change your life. You could suddenly know that work/life balance is out of whack. Or you really prefer to spend an hour reading before bed. These changes will require communicating with your employer or people you love or live with.
Communication is always the key to change. Always. Because whatever you choose to do, even the inner most changes, will affect other people. You may choose not to say anything, simply make the changes. However, lack of communication can be more powerful than actually expressing yourself. It can say that you don’t want their input.
If the changes are more impactful then telling people your intentions may actually help you to stay strong. Consider if and how to tell others your plans, and if you need help reach out.
Put your epiphanies to work.
